Temperature Compensation for the Tank-Trucks

The lorry electronics - electronic head with the temperature compensation of the discharged amount of LPG or of fuels will provide the transparent evidence and save expenses.

Oil enterprises require that gauges of oil carriers trucks are equipped with the temperature compensation of flow measurement. This equipment considerably increases the precision of stock evidence and allows high savings of expenses. What actually is the temperature compensation, how does it function and who needs it?

Fuels and namely LPG change their volume considerably depending on the temperature. The product temperature at the moment of its filling into the tank of the carrier in the fuel depot is usually different from the one at the moment of discharging the product at the refilling station. The volume of the product inside the fuel tank changes depending on the temperature. Therefore there is not a clear evidence what amount of the product should stay in the tank after the discharge. Moreover, the customer does not know exactly how much of the product had been discharged into his tank and consequently cannot fully control the amount of his fuels.

Temperature Compensation

The volume expansion problem can be solved by the temperature compensation of the flow measurement. The principle is the continuous measurement of the product temperature within its discharge, subsequent calculation of the density of the product at every moment and re-calculation of the discharged amount to the one at the standard temperature (15°C). Oil producers also keep their accounts at the standard temperature of 15°C and therefore it is clear how much of the product had been filled into the oil tank of the carrier, how much of it has been discharged at the refilling station and what amount is to remain in the tank-truck afterwards. However, it is important to note that the full control of the product in every moment can be reached by introducing the temperature compensation to all parts of the measuring chain, i.e. also to the dispenser.

Electronic Head for the Tank-Trucks

Many older but even some new tank-trucks are equipped with the mechanical flow meter. Those meters either do not care about the temperature compensation of the flow measurement at all or they provide only a mechanical compensation that is not sufficiently reliable and adjustable. Therefore it is not easy to use that mechanical meter to measure and compensate the temperature of the flow measurement for several different products.

The Lorry Electronics - Electronic Head Quitec - is based on a years long experience with the production of electronic calculators for fuel dispensers and at the same time it takes into account the specific requirements regarding the operation of the fuel tank-trucks. The head is fitted up straight into the discharging space to the proximity of the meter. The fitting takes one or two days and it is possible to exercise it for the fuel tank-trucks with one or more meters. The driver will also appreciate the easy handling of the electronics, well arranged data display and the fast printing of discharging tickets and of summary evidence sheets.

Electronic Head TLC 100 TVC

The Lorry Electronics TLC 100 TVC is intended for the measurement of the discharged diesel, petrols or LPG from the tank-trucks and in the bonding warehouse. This electronic device can be installed directly to the flowmeter into the dispensing space with the explosion hazard. The display indicates the name of the product, its temperature and the discharged amount. The receipt is printed automatically on the printer located in the driver's cab after the termination of the discharging. The type of the discharged product can be adjusted by the operator by using the remote control. Product parameters are introduced and set by the technician at the moment of the metrological calibration once a year. Well aranged balance sheet indicating the initial and the final status of the general and daily indicators is printed out at the end of the workshift.

The electronics is placed inside the robust aluminium case with the flameproof enclosure (EExd). The display is located in the vane on the front side of the case. The Lorry Electronics Head is to be connected to one flow meter and it can measure the temperature of one product. The attendant can invoke the grand total and daily total on the display, print the receipt indicating the discharging, daily balance sheet and set to zero the indicator of the daily total. The metrological parameters are protected by the official seal and they cannot be changed without its breaking. It is possible to connect several Lorry Electronics by the data cable to provide the multiproduct evidence for the tank-trucks carrying more products. Subsequently, all the Lorry Electronic Heads then use the one common printer to print the receipts and evidence sheets.
